My teaching approach: I tailor my lessons to fit the students goals. Beginner students want to learn songs, not theory. So I get the student playing /singing before I focus on scales and theory. I want to teach the student what they want to learn as well as giving them the skills to be a good musician/vocalist. I also determine what your learning style is, so that I can effectively teach you in the way you learn best. Depending on the program, School of Rock's singing lessons can cost from around $150 to $350 per month. Exact prices may vary between locations. Unlike most hourly singing lessons, our programs include weekly private singing lessons and group rehearsals that inspire confidence and teamwork. Vocal students are also welcome to use our facilities whenever we're open, even if they just want to hangout and learn from or collaborate with other musicians.

We have free twice a year recitals for all our students at such acclaimed venues like the McDavid Studio at Bass Hall and various other performance opportunities for our group class students at venues such as the Wood Shed Smoke House on the river, Central Market, & TV famous Chef Pointe for the students to jump into. 
In 2011, Ms. McMurtery performed the role of Papagena in a concert version of Mozart's Die Zauberflöte with New York Lyric Opera. In 2010, she performed in St. John's, Newfoundland as a participant in the Opera on the Avalon summer training program. Other operatic roles performed include Susanna (Le nozze di Fiagro, Mozart), Sister Dolcina (Suor Angelica, Puccini), Poppea (L'incoronazione di Poppea, Monteverdi), Héro (Béatrice et Bénédict, Berlioz), Mercedes (Carmen, Bizet), and Ännchen (Der Freischütz, C.M. von Weber). Also a frequent recitalist, she performed as the soprano soloist for the Hugo Wolf/Goethe Project in New York, NY for the (re:) Directions Theater Company in 2010. Other studies abroad include the Florence Voice Seminar, in Florence, Italy (2007 and 2005), and at the Carl Maria von Weber Hochschule für Musik in Dresden, Germany (2002). Ms. McMurtery holds a Master of Music degree in Voice Performance and Pedagogy from Westminster Choir College of Rider University (2006) and a Bachelor of Music degree in Voice Performance and German from DePauw University of Greencastle, Indiana (2004).

Tyler Demaree is currently a senior Choral Music Education Major at Western Illinois University. Before transferring to Western Illinois University, Tyler was a Music Education major at Southwestern College and is now finishing his Music Education degree at Western. Tyler was born and raised in Winfield, Kansas and moved to Macomb this year to attend Western Illinois Univeristy. He has participated in various top ensembles at Emporia State University, Southwestern College and now at Western Illinois University in University Singers and Vocal Jazz Ensemble. Tyler has a passion for teaching singers with the ideals and terminology of Estill Voice Training while working towards certification in EVT. Mr. Demaree is also a member of the National Association for Music Education and the American Choral Directors Association.

As a child matures into a teenager, it becomes increasingly more important for them to get private lessons, because this is when they can realize they can pursue a career - full-time or part-time gigs - in singing. Having a well-seasoned instructor coach the teen and give him or her the right guidance and support can help make their hopes of singing for a living more practical and realistic. I had struggled with my singing for a while, and thought i was losing what talent i had. I bought this book to see if it would help me a little. It is maybe the second or the third of its kind i have bought over the years, so i didn't have my hopes too high. Well, it helped me SO MUCH. My voice has improved so much in a short time. I have really stretched my vocal cords using her techniques. I actually really enjoyed the whole process, and no longer feel like my singing talent is dwindling. My voice is getting stronger. I love the exercises and particularly the breathing techniques.
