Vocal lessons teach students to control and train their body to relax while performing. Anxiety and performance-induced stress often translates into bad vocal performances. There cannot be enough said about the importance of singing with proper vocal technique.  Our vocal instructors will teach you the proper technique of singing and how to use your singing and speaking voice in a healthy and natural way.  Voice lessons will teach you the proper breath support needed to optimize vocal potential in a way that will not damage your vocal folds.  There are so many singers who try to affect their voice in order to mimic other singers and performers.  This often causes serious damage to vocal chords particularly when the singer they were trying to copy wasn't singing correctly to begin with.  We have several things that you will find make our voice lessons unique.

In 2010, she performed in St. John's, Newfoundland as a participant in the Opera on the Avalon summer training program. Other operatic roles performed include Susanna (Le nozze di Fiagro, Mozart), Sister Dolcina (Suor Angelica, Puccini), Poppea (L'incoronazione di Poppea, Monteverdi), Héro (Béatrice et Bénédict, Berlioz), Mercedes (Carmen, Bizet), and Ännchen (Der Freischütz, C.M. von Weber). Also a frequent recitalist, she performed as the soprano soloist for the Hugo Wolf/Goethe Project in New York, NY for the (re:) Directions Theater Company in 2010. It is maybe the second or the third of its kind i have bought over the years, so i didn't have my hopes too high. Well, it helped me SO MUCH. My voice has improved so much in a short time. I have really stretched my vocal cords using her techniques. I actually really enjoyed the whole process, and no longer feel like my singing talent is dwindling. My voice is getting stronger. Please do not pass over this course when you see that it covers the ANATOMY of singing. Roma starts at the beginning because that is how we learn, at the beginning. I am not new to singing but was feeling rusty on my skills/knowledge. She includes so much information that you get to print and keep forever, including a vocal warm-up cd that you may download. Sometimes she is on video for warm-ups and talks to you like you are in the room with her. I recommend this course to anyone and everyone.

Correct breathing for singers begins with a spontaneous open breath.  Upon inhalation, if ones hands are placed on the stomach - an inch below belly button, the hands will be pushed out by stomach muscles.  The singer's shoulders should be relaxed and not move up.  Neck and jaw should be relaxed.  Jaw needs to be unhinged.  Phonation begins with the movement of the stomach inward, where one is singing while pulling the stomach muscles in.  This is called "singing on the breath."  The phonation ends with the release of the abdominal muscles.  It's important to note that phonation should be ended with the release of the abs and not in one's throat, which is vocally abusive.
I am taking the bluegrass singing course and I find it excellent.Easy to follow, starts where it should and has a huge range of challenge in the one course.If I could I'd quit my job and study it all day.The video feedback is an excellent addendum and I'd recommend this to anyone even a seasoned player just wanting to sharpen up. Many 4-year-olds love to sing, but they likely lack the focus for formal voice lessons. However, it's not too early to begin teaching your child musical concepts that will be important once they are old enough for singing instruction at School of Rock. The instruction in the Michael Daves vocal school is well thought out with each lesson building on the previous one. Not only is it a vocal school but you get to brush up on guitar skills as well. His lessons, without wasted talk, put the student right to work. The extra videos and interviews with musicians are an appreciated added bonus. Michael clearly has a grasp of what is needed to be an educator.
